Maybe I’m Trippin

Okay at this point in life if I’m going to complete my Doctorate degree or even my Ph.D successfully I’m going to need my parents to leave me the heck alone!

Allow me to explain please…

Right now I’m working on my Masters (one more semester to go!! Yay!) and it’s hectic just off the strength of my parents demands. Ya know I’m Cameroonian. African parents are OC bruh! OC = Outta control.

Stay with me…

Ain’t one kid I know who didn’t grow up hearing the talk “Jr? hmmm Jr! Jr! Jr! how many time did I call you? Listen to me, you must become doctor, lawyer, or engineer!” … “Do not disgrace this family ohh! Look at ya aunt’s son, he is a big boy now driving big big big car. You must do succeed as well ohh!”

Look, I didn’t even major in anything remotely close to those things listed above in undergrad and I’m currently not even drifting close still. Took some difficult conversations and death stares but I know my lane and I’m doing well in it. My choice to pursue this higher level degrees in first off all because I partially like school even though I’m not the brightest person out here, I’m thinking ahead and wonna make sure my future family straight and children have a good example to follow, and also because I want to make my parents proud.

But if I’m going to make them proud, I need them to give me some elbowroom to make this joint happen! LoL ! It gets hectic man! “For every one credit hour in which you enroll, you will spend approximately two to three hours outside of class studying. Therefore, 3 credit hours (1 course) = 3 hours in class per week = 6-9 hours study time per week.”[1] So lets do the math… I’m taking three courses this semester as part-time student, working a part-time job which most weeks feels like full-time when you factor in them overtime hours I take to be able to balance out some of these bills, also doing music part-time as an artist and engineer, and last but certainly not least a full-time Christian. Did you catch that? Because I got lost in my math somewhere between 6-9 hours per 3 credit hours of study and work. smh. That’s a whole days spent! Where in the heck am I to find time to be going about running your errands and doing just about every little thing in the house for you, like coming all the way downstairs to pick up the remote control on the table my your kicked up feet to hand it to you, mom and pops?

Maybe I’m a selfish son. Maybe I’m inconsiderate.

Maybe I’m overblowing it. Maybe I’m not managing my time well.

Maybe I’m possed to been moved out and won’t have to worry bout this in the first place! LoL

Maybe I’m tripping. Maybe I’m wrong for this one.

And maybe I’m a broke boy who can’t afford a spot and need to shut up and appreciate the roof and meals before he end up homeless.

It says, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing,” Philippians 2:14 and the Lord also said, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 61-3.

All I’m saying is I’m just going to need my people to understand and bare with me when I say no sometimes because my priorities are calling me to other things. Today just been a hectic day tho, so I penned this down. But this is seasonal. This too shall pass. We tough out here! I was made for greatness. I aint never scared. I press on.

Oh, wait. Please pray for me LoL. I cannot do this on my own strength. Jesus take the wheel!

24 Hours after Scandalous EP

ScandalousNEWIt has officially been 24 hours after the release of my new musical project ‘Scandalous EP’ and while I’m not writing this post-release write up exactly 24 hours latter, I still wanted to share these thoughts with you my dear reader. I’ll be brief and to the point!

The making of Scandalous was an incredible journey. As I explained in a pre-release Facebook live video the night before Friday, August 5th on the EP release, it took me about 2 months to create the project with an exception of Habits (featuring my kinfolk and beloved sister in the LORD Michelle Mistry) which had been in the works for 6 months because of distance. Michelle lives in Denmark and I’m ultra grateful for her being a part of the project, thank you Michelle!

Scandalous has received a tone of praise and I could not be more grateful for every single person who took the time to stream or download it and actually listen. At this point I just want to share with you some of those reviews and comments and make one small request.

The following are some comments and feedback after people took in Scandalous on the day of its release and the next. Each statement, in quotation marks, is from a different individual person and I’ve:

“I love the EP brother. Thank you”

“Bro, album is (fire emoji, fire emoji, fire emoji) wish the tracks were longer, man!”

“Fresh start bumps. Lol I just love it. Fresh Start is a solid reminder of grace. You sound very relaxed on it & your flow is smooth.. I like how the theme continues throughout. Dope concept.. Lowkey kinda scares me tho. I’m sitting here thinking like dang, is everything ok with dude.”

 “I’m proud of you”

“I mess with it. Super relevant God bless ya I support”

“Thanks for making this EP. Thanks even more for sending it directly to me!”

“Convertible really got me, just like Habits, but its all good bro…Keep up”

“Listened to “Bad Self” and was like “I’m SOLD! Ha!” #Scandalous EP Riflex iTunes Go get that!”

“Good work by my boy Riflex always delivering with Power!”

“UDM be the set…you know my bruvas all awoke (fire emoji)”

“Stay on guard don’t be simple-minded”

“Forever a fan, with no problem! It’s real and I appreciate it!”

So for the most part these comments and feedback, if I can call it that, are mostly positive or just simply one line quotes from a track in the project. I must now stress the point and make clear that I’m not sharing this with you to boost my ego or anything of a prideful sort but in actuality to make a point. While I’m grateful for these comments and how much they have been encouraging to me, I am writing this post to plead for one thing and it’s this. Share! Share!! share!!! Most of these comments are coming from folks who already are familiar with my music and are fans. Even though some are casual fans, I’m glad they gave a listen and enjoyed it. The goal however is that our movement grows! I can not do it alone. I absolutely need your help. If you are reading this, my dear reader it’s most likely becase you follow my music and with your help we can reach the next person. You know what the music content is and you know why we made Scandalous. I still strongly believe many young man and women can literally be pulled out of the fire with this project and I beg you to join me in spreading this message by sharing the music.

The music is free, as has always been and can be downloaded here:

Tweet and post the link on your social media platforms.

Again, I thank you and may God bless you!
